HIP HIDEAWAY IN MEXICO

I’d like to pack my bags and leave for the charming Azucar Hotel named for the sugar cane grown in the Gulf state of Veracruz. It’s the latest project of hotelier Carlos Couturier, founder of some of Mexico’s hippest resort properties. The resort’s 20 low-slung bungalows with thatched roofs all possess a private terrace with locally made hammocks that invite to lay down and enjoy the overwhelming view over the Gulf of Mexico. The interior of the bungalows is reduced to the extreme with curved walls, white-on-white interiors and red-cedar woodwork from driftwood Couturier collected from the beach. Guests can take a dip in the funky pool whose deck is covered with sunbleached pink beanbags, relax in the outdoor spa and yoga space offering a wide array of space services or explore the nearby archaeological ruins near the charming village of San Rafael. Or just enjoy the restaurant’s culinary offerings: the freshest seafood served in a sugary-white environment. That’s how sweet life can be at Azucar.

ARNE JACOBSEN AJ LAMPS

I totally love the AJ Floor- and Tablelamps created by Arne Jacobsen in 1960 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. This classic icon of modern design will be enjoyed for many years to come. It is rumoured that the circular cut out in the heavy iron base of the lamp was originally intended to hold an ashtray. Which might be true, as smoking was very popular in the 1960s, but also without an ashtray the hole adds elegance and lightness to the lamps. For the 50th anniversary of the AJ lightning family 5 new colours have been added. Pictures via Connox.

VESA SAMMALISTO’S HELSINKI HOME

Dude, how beautiful is that airy Helsinki home of illustrator Vesa Sammalisto and his little family featured on Design Sponge! The cheerful mix of midcentury furniture and modern design builds such a nice contrast with the white painted wooden floor. I love especially the clever combination of Eames chairs together with the Fanett Chairs from Tapiovaara.

NUDESTEKKER “AIDE”

Disconnecting and reconnecting the plug – that’s what the Swiss onlineshop “Nudestekker” is about. They offer only one special item at a time for a period of exactly 100 days. Then it goes “off” – and another one is “on”. True simplicity. Love it.

The current product is “Aide” – a pure and simple canvas rucksack made with passion. Chop-chop! There are only 24 days left!

TRAKATAN FILOMENA

I guess I’m not the only one who thinks that bags can’t be big enough to carry around all that stuff you need so bad to make it through your day. But I’m tired of being asked if I was on the run, when I go for a spontaneous drink after work with one my big bags. Thanks to Trakatan those days are over! The fabulous Filomena Bag is extremely versatile and unique. Super sized, it is the perfect accessory for very long days out of home, but you can always fold it into a smaller, elegant, double handled pochette. Every item is different from one another, since printed fabrics are the results of a handcraft and peculiar process. Filomena is also available in black, brown and blue Italian leather. Whoohoo!

PETITE FRITURE LOOP SHELF

It was love at first sight when I discovered the Loop Shelf by Amandine Chhor for Petite Friture, because it has got the perfect dimensions to be hanged above your bed, desk or sofa! It’s the result of a research made in a factory specialized in soldered steel wire, on how to generate new curves by optimizing the constraints of the industrial production of storage trolleys. I just love the idea of putting my favourite photos or postcards between the wires. Loop Shelf comes in two colours – lemon yellow or white – and will be available from September on.

ACADEMY JEWELRY

Oh my, I’m totally smitten with the spectacular, jaw-dropping stone bracelets and coral necklaces from Academy Jewelry! Each piece is handmade in Richmond, Virginia and one-of-a-kind and I think I really need the lavender coral necklace and the citrine stone bracelet in my life.

COOL PINK

I think pink is the most underestimated colour ever. It’s said to be the colour of little girls, nice and sweet. But when combined with black or grey all shades of pink get very sophisticated and cool.
