HIP HIDEAWAY IN MEXICO

I’d like to pack my bags and leave for the charming Azucar Hotel named for the sugar cane grown in the Gulf state of Veracruz. It’s the latest project of hotelier Carlos Couturier, founder of some of Mexico’s hippest resort properties. The resort’s 20 low-slung bungalows with thatched roofs all possess a private terrace with locally made hammocks that invite to lay down and enjoy the overwhelming view over the Gulf of Mexico. The interior of the bungalows is reduced to the extreme with curved walls, white-on-white interiors and red-cedar woodwork from driftwood Couturier collected from the beach. Guests can take a dip in the funky pool whose deck is covered with sunbleached pink beanbags, relax in the outdoor spa and yoga space offering a wide array of space services or explore the nearby archaeological ruins near the charming village of San Rafael. Or just enjoy the restaurant’s culinary offerings: the freshest seafood served in a sugary-white environment. That’s how sweet life can be at Azucar.

TRAVEL: HOTEL PARADIS, PARIS

Allons enfants! Although I’m “French made” and have travelled to France a number of times, I’ve never made it to Paris (yet). But this might change soon. I immediately felt the urge to pack my bags and head to Paris when I discovered this lovely boutique hotel. The Hotel Paradis, located in the 10th arrondissement, between the Gard Du Nord and Montmartre, has recently been transformed by interior designer Dorothée Meilichzon into a quirky, sophisticated mixture of midcentury furniture, handpainted wallpapers and modern elements. Allons-y!
