VESA SAMMALISTO’S HELSINKI HOME

Dude, how beautiful is that airy Helsinki home of illustrator Vesa Sammalisto and his little family featured on Design Sponge! The cheerful mix of midcentury furniture and modern design builds such a nice contrast with the white painted wooden floor. I love especially the clever combination of Eames chairs together with the Fanett Chairs from Tapiovaara.

ACRYLIC STORAGE

You don’t know what to do with all your beautiful bits and bobs, pictures, fleamarket finds and souvenirs? Just change your wall into a little museum with these fantastic clear acrylic boxes (“Display Me”) and type cases (“Curiosity Box”) from HAY.

COSY HOME

Love this cosy apartment, the light in it and the contrasts of bright colours and white and grey. And of course again the acrylic box from Hay in the last picture! Via Bolaget

PETITE FRITURE LOOP SHELF

It was love at first sight when I discovered the Loop Shelf by Amandine Chhor for Petite Friture, because it has got the perfect dimensions to be hanged above your bed, desk or sofa! It’s the result of a research made in a factory specialized in soldered steel wire, on how to generate new curves by optimizing the constraints of the industrial production of storage trolleys. I just love the idea of putting my favourite photos or postcards between the wires. Loop Shelf comes in two colours – lemon yellow or white – and will be available from September on.

COOL PINK

I think pink is the most underestimated colour ever. It’s said to be the colour of little girls, nice and sweet. But when combined with black or grey all shades of pink get very sophisticated and cool. LAZY SUMMER DAYS

This mobile from Anve, made of slate (smoothed by the ocean at the Vicentine Coast), wire, green glas and cobalt blue plastic found on the beach in Sétubal, in front of a wide open window. Gently moved by a warm summer breeze. Me lying on the sofa after a long day outside. Perfection.

DREAM HOME

What a dream home! The Corkellis House designed by interior stylist Kathryn Tyler is a convincing mixture of Mid-Century modern furniture, clean lines, wood and concrete. I’m just loving everything about it – especially the dining room furniture! Via Design Attractor

DOMESTIC CONSTRUCTION FLOOR MATS

Usually floor mats are some of the ugliest, dowdiest things in the world although it’s the first thing you see when entering a house! But there’s relief – the girls from Domestic Construction show us that even practical things can be beautiful! The rubber backing mats are digitally dyed with one of their colourful hand cut paper designs and completely machine-washable – so they are also perfect for outdoor use. I think I’d love to have the small day tripper mat to welcome me every time I come home.

THE APARTMENT OF MAURICIO ARRUDA

It was love at first sight with the apartment of Brazilian designer and architect Mauricio Arruda in São Paulo – a thrilling mixture of handpicked mid-century pieces and modern design. I especially love the vibrant colour of the green chairs around his "House of Cards Table", it’s such a perfect refreshing contrast to the mid-century wooden sideboard. Via Yatzer.com.

JUMBLE-SHOP

Yesterday I got a very nice e-mail from Eva and Brigitte, two Bavarian sisters. Just like me they have a huge passion for rare vintage objects and my jaw drapped when I opened the link to their lovely Jumble-Shop: a stunning selection of perfectly displayed vintage vases, funny old toys, candle holders, enamel kitchenware and other fancy items. Good news for all my oversea readers: they also ship worldwide on request. And did I already mention that I love the idea of two sisters working together?

THE NEON OBSESSION CONTINUES

As you already might have noticed, my obsession for neon colours is still unbroken. No wonder I’m smitten with the rad apartment of Silke Neumann that I discovered at  Freunde von Freunden. I especially love her idea of painting the edges of her shoe shelves in neon pink. Oh yes.
